Trade Policies
External trade has always been the backbone of the Malaysian economic growth.With the size of population of about 19 million, Malaysia has to look beyondits geographical boundry for its economic expansion. This is not only for itsproducts but also for its source of investment. As one of the founder members of WTO,Malaysia fully subscribe to its trade libralisation principles. Malaysia is actively involved in bilateral, multilateral and regional cooperation.
Currently, Malaysia is trading goods and services with more than 100 countries.Malaysia's international trade is fairly open and outward oriented. The principles embodied in Malaysia's trade policy objectives are :
- To contribute to the maintenance of an open and strong multilateral trading system based on the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
- To undertake libralisation measures through regular reviews of the trade regime.
- To maintain and expand in non-traditional markets, particularly country in the South.
- To promote and develop exports of manufactured and value-added resource based products.
- To seek improved and favourable market access for Malaysia's exports of process comodities and manufactured products.
- To strengthen and expand intra-ASEAN trade through closer economic and trade cooperation.
To manage trade activities, Malaysia has its own Trade Policy Framework with a
number of Acts/Laws to safeguard Malaysia interests. Malaysia also signed Trade Agreements
either multilaterally or bilaterally to show our committment and responsibility.
In addition, Malaysia also provides incentives to export activities. Find out more on other incentives
Opportunities
To guide potential investors to invest in Malaysia, a list of promoted industries has been prepared and approved by the authority. An investment made in the selected menufacturing activities will enjoy certain type of incentives. The list is available for you now.
