Joint Press Release Of The Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting

- The informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting in Bangkok on 16 August 1987 discussed the result of the talks between the Foreign Minister of Indonesia. ASEAN's interlocutor, and Vietnamese leaders in Ho Chi Minh City on 29 July 1987.
- The ASEAN Foreign Ministers expressed appreciation to Foreign Minister Mochtar Kusumaatmadja for his commendable effort to find a way to begin talks between the Kampucheans and Vietnam.
- The ASEAN Foreign Ministers welcomed the initiative of the cocktail party of informal meeting as a forum for initiating a dialogue between Vietnam and the Kampucheans. The proposed informal meeting as stated in paragraph 4 of the joint Press Release between Indonesia and Vietnam on 29 July 1987 is envisaged as on, meeting, initially among the Kampuchean parties, followed immediately by the participation of Vietnam. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers await a positive response from Vietnam in realising such a meeting.
- The ASEAN Foreign Ministers further await a reaction from the CGDK to this initiative, noting that the elements ,of the CGDK's 8 point proposal will form the basis of discussion in the proposed cocktail party meeting.
- The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Thailand as Chairman of the ASEAN Standing Committee was requested by the ASEAN Foreign Ministers to discuss this matter with Prince Norodom Sihanouk when the Minister visits Beijing and Pyongyang during 18 - 25 August 1987.
