Thailand’s Best Practices

I. BOI Unit for Industrial Linkage Development (BUILD) 

          BUILD was established to promote and develop supporting industries in Thailand.  The program which aims to be a crucial key to part and component supplies is an important initiative of the new service-oriented Board of Investment. 

A.    BUILD’s Main Objectives

This program is to stimulate more consumption on local parts by matching buyers or assemblers and vendors or manufacturers. 

Vendors Meet Customers

          The early phase, VMC activity focuses on 2 main industries :

1.     Electronics                  2. Automotive 

BUILD

1.     Invites supporting industry companies to visit assembly plants

2.     Organizes seminar on part requirements with purchasing people of the assemblies

3.     Constructs direct relationships between potential vendors and the Assemblers 

H.   ASID : ASEAN Supporting Industry Database

ASID is one of ASEAN’s attempts to promote supporting industries in ASEAN member countries.

BUILD is responsible for developing this database, consolidating and updating the data, and activating the service on the internet to permit global access

II. Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) 

          The Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) has been conducted by the Department of Industrial Promotion (DIP) in provincial areas throughout the country since 1980.  The graduated trainees in each province get together to set up a small club to help each other to improve their capabilities of business arrangement through various activities with the assistance from DIP.  Later, these small clubs merged to be the central club and changed its status by registration to the Association of Thai Small and Medium Entrepreneurs in 1997. Its branches are located in various provinces around the country with a total members of 2,050 from 68 training courses.

          The Association of Thai Small and Medium Entrepreneurs is a non-government and non-profit organization for Small and Medium–sized industrial enterprises.  The members consist of  representatives from various industrial sectors.  At present, the Association also receives continuing partial support from the Department of Industrial Promotion according to its policy to promote and develop SMEs as the whole.         

Objectives :

1.     To serve as the center for members and any other entrepreneurs who are interested in joining the activities.

2.     To collaborate and coordinate with government and private sectors to promote and develop the progressive business performance of industrial entrepreneurs.

3.     To disseminate, promote and conduct training courses on appropriate modern techniques and know-how for members and general entrepreneurs for higher caliber.

4.     To support and assist members in solving their problems and eliminating obstacles and difficulties in their businesses.

5.     To be the center for the exchange of knowledge, view-point and experiences among the members. 

Activities :

1.     To organize seminars and training courses for members in order to improve their business capabilities.

2.     To conduct study mission or trade mission in foreign countries such as Japan , China, etc. for business promotion on trade and investment.

3.     To provide assistance in negotiation for joint-venture business with foreign partners within Thailand and abroad.

4.     To be a center for business match making among the members or with other entrepreneurs

5.     To organize trade fair to display member’s products in local and foreign market for potential customers

6.     To collaborate with government and private organizations to improve and upgrade  production , management and technical capabilities of the industrial entrepreneurs.

7.     To suggest the usage and benefit of  e-commerce and internet to promote  members’ business

8.     The Executive Board will closely foster members’s performance by regular visit  in various regions to strengthen the good relationship among  members 

The Department of Industrial Promotion cooperates with the Association to provide functions in term of developing and upgrading the entrepreneurship, managerial and technical capabilities of human resource for SME sector through an EDP package to ensure  an efficient and sustainable impact.

III. Manufacturing Development to Improve Competitiveness Program (MDICP) 

1.     Objective

The Purpose of MDICP is mainly to develop Strengths of Thai manufacturing in industries in management practices so that they can complete in the world market. 

2.     Target group

Any manufacturing companies which are keen to develop themselves. 

3.     Procedure

Throughout the program, there will be a combination set of training and consultancy

The organizer will conduct the following activities.

IV. Competency-based Economies through Formation of Enterprise (CEFE) 

1.    Objective

CEFE concept was originally developed by the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and further adapted in many countries. In Thailand, CEFE is introduced by the Department of Industrial promotion. CEFE is a versatile and innovative human resource development toolbox. The main purpose is to empower potential entrepreneurs from various sectors to start a business, and existing entrepreneurs to enhance their entrepreneurial and managerial competencies to operate competitive businesses. It is also used to train company executives, development catalyst, educators, workers and students, among others, to make them entrepreneurial, thereby contributing to the building of an enterprise society.

Any small and medium scaled enterprises
