Your Excellency
I have the honour to refer to the Agreement between the Governments of the member countries of ASEAN and the Government of Canada on Economic Cooperation signed In New York on 25 September, 1981.
The Declaration of the Admission of Brunei Darussalam into the Association. f Southeast Asia, Nations (ASEAN) was signed in Jakarta on the 7th of January 1984. With that Declaration Brunei Darussalam becomes the Sixth member state of ASEAN and thereby solemnly agrees to subscribe or accede, as the case may be, to all the Declarations and Treaties of ASEAN.
The member countries of ASEAN and the Government of Canada having agreed to extend the said Agreement to Brunei Darussalarn, I have the honour and great pleasure, on behalf of the Government of Brunei Darussalam, to express their desire and interest to accede and become the party to the said Agreement between the Governments of the member countries of ASEAN and the Government of Canada on Economic Cooperation which is signed I New York on 25th September 1981.

Excellency,
I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your Note of today’s date, informing me that the Government of Brunei Darussalam formally accedes to the Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Governments of the Member Coun- tries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on Economic Cooperation, done at New York on September 25, 1981.
It gives me great pleasure to inform Your Excellency that the proposals outlined in your Note are acceptable to the Government of Canada, and to confirm that your Note and this reply, which is authentic in English and French, shall serve to record the accession of the Government of Brunei Darussalam to the Canada - ASEAN Economic Co- operation Agreement. it is further understood that copies of the present Exchange of Notes will be circulated to the governments of the other member countries of ASEAN.
