Joint Communique of the Third ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue
Jakarta, 9-10 May 1977



Pursuant to the agreement reached at the New Zed Dialogue in Wellington on 15-16 July 1975, the, Third ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue between the ASEAN Directors-General and the officials of the New Zealand Government as convened in Jakarta on 9-10 May 1977 to review and assess the -progress made in the implementation. of the projects under the ASEAN-NEW Zealand Dialogue.

The New Zealand delegation was led by Mr. Merwyn Norrish, Deputy Secretary of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the ASEAN delegations were headed by Mr. Umarjadi Njotowijono, Director-General, ASEAN-Indonesia, Datuk Haji Ali bin Abdullah, Director-General, ASEAN-Malaysia, Ambassador Modesto Farolan, Director-General, ASEAN- Philippines, Mr. Tan Boon Seng, Director-General, ASEAN-Singapore, and Mr. Pranom Kongsamut, Deputy Director-General, ASEAN-Thailand. Representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat ere also present. Mr. Tan Boon Seng, Director-General, ASEAN-Singapore, was the spokesman of the ASEAN delegation.

Umarjadi Njotowijono, Director-General, ASEAN - Indonesia, welcomed the delegates to the Meeting on behalf of the Indonesian government.

The Meeting expressed satisfaction at the progress made in the five projects under ASEAN-New Zealand cooperation, namely animal husbandry, cooperation for trade expansion dental health, reforestation, and pine forest development, and survey of end-uses of timber.

It as noted that the survey on end-uses of timber as nearing completion and that other projects were way underway. In addition, the Meeting explored new areas of ASEAN-NEW Zealand cooperation such areas as science and technology and the social and cultural fields.

The Meeting agreed that the ASEAN Heads of Mission in Wellington will hold informal meetings periodically with officials of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign, Affairs to further ASEAN-NEw Zealand cooperation.

The New Zealand and ASEAN delegation expressed their sincere appreciation for the cordial and arm hospitality extended to them during their stay in Indonesia.
