ASEAN Ministerial Understanding On The StandardIzation Of Import And Quarantine Regulations On Animal And Animal Products
Kuala Lumpur, 9 October 1982



WE, the undersigned, attending the Fourth Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 8 - 9 October 1982, upon the invitation of H.E. Dato.' Abdul. Manan Othman, Minister of Agriculture Malaysia.

RECALLING the Declaration of ASEAN Concord signed in Bali, Indonesia, on 24 February 1976, which provides that ASEAN member countries shall take cooperative action in their national and regional development programmes;

NOTING the Manila Consensus arising from the First Meeting of ASEAN Agriculture Ministers in Manila in August 1979;

CONSCIOUS of the need for ASEAN to be free from major animal diseases and the need to promote intra-ASEAN and international trade in animal and animal products;

DO HEREBY DECLARE that there shall be standard regulations among ASEAN countries for the importation and movement of animals and animal products from countries within and from outside ASEAN.


DONE at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on this Ninth day of October, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Eighty-Two.
