The Department of Standards Malaysia issued a Certificate of Accreditation to SIRIM Berhad as a certification body of quality systems effective from 2 December 1996, under its scheme for Accreditation of Certification Bodies.
With this accreditation, organisations certified by SIRIM Berhad to ISO 9000 standards now have independent confirmation that their certificates are issued by a competent certification body that operates in accordance with recognised international requirements. SIRIM Berhad is now the first and only accredited Malaysian based ISO 9000 certification body.
The accreditation criteria used by the Department of Standards ACB-D62 (identical to ISO/IEC Guide 62) "General requirements for bodies operating assessment and certification/registration of quality systems", is currently the most stringent internationally recognised criteria and exceeds requirements of the EN 45012 standard for accreditation of certification bodies. SIRIM's operations were audited by the Department of Standards auditors to evaluate organisational arrangements for impartiality, competence of staff and effectiveness of management systems to the comprehensive criteria of ISO/IEC Guide 62.
As the movement to international acceptance of ISO certificates grows, SIRIM is now well placed to provide certification that is recognised internationally.
