The IEC Council confirmed Bernard H. Falk, an American, as President - Elect of the IEC. He takes p his duties on 1 January 1995 and will succeed Hans Gissel as President for three years from 1 January 1996.
The Lord Kelvin IEC Award" has been created to mark exceptional contributions by individuals to the IEC. From 1995, a maximum of three awards may be made during any year for the following: Leadership; outstanding contribution to the growth, development and promotion of IEC systems and standards; involvement in an IEC activity which has a significant impact n industry or commerce; contribution to promotion of the IEC's image; outstanding service (for a period longer than five years).
The Policy Group for Conformity Assessment is setting up a task force for formulation of proposals for a new IEC policy on the establishment of a Conformity Assessment Board and for the future development of Conformity Assessment Schemes.
The 59th IEC General Meeting will be held in Durban, South Africa from the 16 to 28 October 1995. The German National Committee ill be hosting the 60th IEC General Meeting in September 1996 in the city of Dresden,. The Council has accepted the invitation from the Indian National Committee to hold the 61th IEC General Meeting in New Delhi in 1997.
