Brunei Darussalam recently adopted the ISO 9000 series of quality management standards. The recently revised International Standards were released as Piawai Brunei Darussalam, the PBD ISO 9000 series. Seminars were held to educate the public about the requirements of the standards; and to provide assistance to local firms seeking certification,. The first local manufacturers, suppliers and consultants to implement quality management systems have now been certified.
The Construction Planning and Research Unit (CPRU) has been formed under the Ministry of Development, Negara Brunei Darussalam to serve as the focal point within the country for all international and regional Standards activities. It is a correspondent member of the International Standards Organisation, (ISO) and subscribes to other Standards Bodies. A full library of international Standards is maintained by the unit. The CPRU represents the interests of Brunei Darussalam in forum such as APEC CTI, ACCSQ and PASC.
The Unit acts as the secretariat for the preparation and publication of Brunei Darussalam Standards or Piawai Brunei Darussalam (PBD). The first PBD's were published in 1993 and to date have concentrated n the construction industry, reflecting the expertise within CPRU.
