The ASEAN Foreign Ministers welcomed the launching of the Multilateral Assistance Initiative for the Philippines / Philippine Assistance Program (MAI / PAP) at the meeting of the enlarged consultative group for the Philippines, which will be held in Tokyo from 3 - 5 July, 1989. They are encouraged by the consensus existing in the international community in support of this extraordinary effort to promote broadly-based growth in the Philippines. They reiterated their full support for the efforts and progress being made by the Philippine Government to accelerate the pace of economic recovery supportive of a better life for the Filipino people. They called upon the international community to make significant contributions to the MAI / PAP responsive to the vision and goals of the Philippine Development Plan.
