ASEAN-New Zealand
Since the Fifth ASEAN - New Zealand
dialogue held in Manila on 26-27 March 1981, no
meeting between the two has yet been held. The
projects on animal husbandry, reforestation and
pine forest development and end-uses of timber
however are already being implemented. The
ASEAN - New Zealand Fellowship Programme at
the Institute of South East Asian Studies (ISEAS)
in Singapore was also extended for another five
years until 1986. On the Livestock Development
Programme, New Zealand has agreed to sponsor an
additional four workshops before the end of 1983.
Newly approved projects on Geothermal
Energy, the Regional Dairy Training Centre, the
Research and Development of Ferrocement and
the ASEAN Regional Seed Technology Centre have
also got off the ground.
The Sixth ASEAN - New Zealand Dialogue is
scheduled to be held in December 1983 in New
Zealand. The main issues for discussion will include
the improvement of access to the New Zealand
market, ASEAN's request for deeper tariff cuts,
tariff liberalization, removal of import licensing on
the specified products of interest to ASEAN and
the relaxation of New Zealand's stringent health
regulations on ASEAN's exports of processed
marine products of canned fish and cooked, peeled
and frozen prawns.
