ASEAN and New Zealand agreed to take concrete steps to boost investment cooperation through the implementation of various projects under the Trade and Investment Promotion Package (TIPP), designed to develop sustainable commercial links and increase the awareness of the economic opportunities existing in each of the respective markets. The increased involvement of the private sector, through the ASEAN-New Zealand Business Council, both in Dialogue Meetings and in projects under the TIPP, has also been useful and instrumental in promoting the existing cooperation in investments.
On development cooperation, the establishment of a Joint Management Committee (JMC) to plan, monitor, and review the whole spectrum of ASEAN-New Zealand relations has been agreed at the 11th Meeting of ASEAN- New Zealand Dialogue of 16-17 June 1992. In this regard, a Memorandum of Agreement/ Exchange of Letters will be concluded between ASEAN and New Zealand.
In 1992. ASEAN completed the consolidated ASEAN project on the Utilization of Natural Gas for Natural Gas Vehicle. A Management Service Agent has been appointed to implement the project starting January 1993. In the context of enhancing indigenous Scientific and technological activities in ASEAN countries, New Zealand has pledged an annual cash contribution to the ASEAN Science Fund amounting to NZ$ 100,000 for three consecutive years beginning 1990. New Zealand's support for the Fund reflects its recognition of the importance of science and technology as a basis for sound economic and social development. ASEAN received a contribution from New Zealand amounting to a total of NZ$ 100,000 for the Fourth ASEAN Food Conference and the Third Science and Technology Week celebrations held in Singapore in September 1992.
