ARMED WITH A MISSION AND A vision for ASEAN youth, Mr, Mustaffa Kamil Ayub, (centre) Chair of the Committee for ASEAN Youth Cooperation (CAYC) called on the Secretary-General of ASEAN (left) in Jakarta in the wake of the celebrations to mark ASEAN's 301, year. "Since it is the young who should provide inspiration and act as instigators, actors and leaders in the regional and exploitation of the huge potential of the Southeast Asian region, we recognise that it is our duty to unite the entire potential of our generation in this region," said Mr. Mustaffa, who wrote ASEAN Youth Renaissance which outlines seven challenges confronting ASEAN youth with the advent of a new millennium,
Established in 1975, the CAYC is a regional NGO dedicated to "upholding ASEAN ideals among the youth in the region and to the promotion of peace, neutrality, solidarity and prosperity in the region." Its programmes and activities include seminars, workshops, courses and camps for youth in the region as ,ell as social, cultural and sporting events.
It enjoys the status of "Observer with
speaking rights" at meetings of the
ASEAN Subcommittee for Youth. The
CAYC played a leading role in composing
the ASEAN Youth Song, used for ASEAN
Youth Day Meetings as well as the design
of the ASEAN Youth logo.
