The New ASEAN logo represents a stable, peaceful, united and dynamic ASEAN. The colours of the logo -- blue, red, white and yellow -- represent the main colours of the crests of all the ASEAN countries.
The blue represents peace and stability. Red depicts courage and dynamism. White shows purity and yellow symbolises prosperity.
The ten stalks of padi represent the dream of ASEAN's Founding Fathers for an ASEAN comprising all the ten countries in Southeast Asia bound together in friendship and solidarity. The circle represents the unity of ASEAN.
The specification of Pantone Colour adopted for the colours of the ASEAN logo are: Blue: Pantone 286 Red: Pantone Red 032 Yellow: Pantone Process Yellow
For four-colour printing process, the specifications of colours will be: Blue: 100C 60 M 0Y 6K (100C 60M 0Y 10K) Red: 0C 91M 87Y 0K (0C 90M 90Y 0K) Yellow: 0C 0M 100Y 0K Specifications in brackets are to be used when an arbitrary measurement of process colours is not possible.
In Pantone Process Colour Simulator, the specifications equal to: Blue: Pantone 204-1 Red: Pantone 60-1 Yellow: Pantone 1-3
The font used for the word "ASEAN" in the logo is lower-case Helvetica in bold.

REGULATIONS AND GUIDELINES
ON THE USE OF THE ASEAN LOGO (EMBLEM)
The Secretary-General of ASEAN is given the responsibility under the authority of this Regulations and Guidelines to provide necessary control on the use and display of the “Logo / Emblem” (12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting, Bali, 28-30 June 1979).
1. Design of the “Logo / Emblem” :
The ASEAN “Logo / Emblem” shall be the official emblem of the ASEAN. The design of the “Logo / Emblem” and the colors and other specifications used in the “Logo / Emblem” are prescribed above. The “Logo / Emblem” shall appear either in the specified colors or in black and white. It can be in proportionate size as appropriate for its use and place of display.
2. Dignity of the “Logo / Emblem”
As a general principle, the “Logo / Emblem” shall be used in proper manner as not to be subjected to any indignity. It is prohibited to use the “Logo / Emblem” as an advertisement or trademark of for political propaganda in whatever form.
3. Use and Display of the “Logo / Emblem” by the ASEAN Secretariat
The ASEAN Secretariat shall use and display the “Logo / Emblem” in the manner considered appropriate by the Secretary-General, which may include the following :
Display at the Secretariat buildings and residence of the Secretary General;
Use in its official correspondence as letterhead, etc;
Use as the official seal of the Secretariat;
Use in all its official publications, books and magazines to give them an ASEAN identity;
The “Logo / Emblem” can be used to mark properties, or engraved on inventories belonging to Secretariat;
It may be used on uniform or identification tag to be worn by the Secretariat staff;
It may be displayed at official ceremonies, gatherings, meetings, exhibition, etc;
4. The Use and Display of the “Logo / Emblem” at the ASEAN Meetings
The “Logo / Emblem” may be displayed and used at ASEAN Meetings, subject to proper supervision and control by ASEAN National Secretariat of the member country hosting such meeting, based on the understanding of this Regulation. It should be stressed, however, that only official meetings of ASEAN can use the “Logo / Emblem” in the manner as to display in the conference hall and entrance, as markings on conference papers, folders, etc. identification tags of delegates and officials.
5. Use and Display of the “Logo / Emblem” by Governments of member countries
Governments of ASEAN member countries are also authorized to use and display the “Logo / Emblem” but only on functions, ceremonies, meetings and gathering of ASEAN. The ASEAN National Secretariat in member countries, however, may apply discretions on the manner the “Logo / Emblem” should be used, bearing in mind the desirability in the protection of its dignity. The Governments of member countries may allow their functionaries to display and to use the “Logo / Emblem” in commemoration of special occasion of ASEAN such as anniversary of ASEAN, or in effort to promote the interest of ASEAN.
6. Use by Non-Governmental Organizations affiliated with ASEAN
The controlling authority in the use and display of the ASEAN “Logo / Emblem” lies with the Secretary-General. Non-Governmental Organizations that are affiliated with ASEAN shall apply to the Secretary-General if they wish to use the “Logo / Emblem”. In this purpose, the Secretary-General shall maintain a register of these bodies that are given such permissions. The bodies shall then be made to commit themselves to uphold the dignity of the “Logo / Emblem” and in manner not to prejudice the status and interest of ASEAN.

The ASEAN flag represents a stable, peaceful, united and dynamic ASEAN. The colours of the flag -- blue, red, white and yellow -- represent the main colours of the flags of all the ASEAN countries.

adopted for the colours of the ASEAN flag are:

For the printed version, the specifications of colours (except white) will follow those for the colours of the ASEAN logo, i.e.:

Red: Pantone Red 032 or Process Colour 0C 91M 87Y 0K
Yellow: Pantone Process Yellow or Process Colour 0C 0M 100Y 0K
The ratio of the width to the length of the flag is two to three and the size specifications for the official flags are:
Table Flag: 10 cm x 15 cm
Room Flag: 100 cm x 150 cm
Car Flag: 10 cm x 30 cm
Field Flag: 200 cm x 300 cm

GUIDELINES ON THE USE AND DISPLAY OF THE ASEAN FLAG
(From Handbook on ASEAN Protocol and Practices, January 1995)
1. Bearing of the ASEAN Flag
a) The ASEAN Flag is a sign of distinction to display the unity of ASEAN Member Countries;
b) The ASEAN Flag is a symbol of Member Countries’ unity and support for the principles and endeavours of ASEAN.
2. Dignity of Flag
As a general principle, the ASEAN Flag shall be used in a proper and dignified manner.
3. Use and Display of the ASEAN Flag by the ASEAN Secretariat
The ASEAN Secretariat shall use and display the ASEAN Flag in the manner specified under these guidelines which include the following:
a) During ASEAN meetings;
b) On the official vehicle of the Secretary-General during official functions;
c) At the Secretariat building and residence of the Secretary-General; and
d) During official ceremonies, gatherings, exhibitions or any other special occasions, organised by the ASEAN Secretariat in its effort to promote the interest of ASEAN.
4. Use and Display of the ASEAN Flag by Member Countries
The ASEAN Flag can be displayed at the ASEAN meetings, ceremonies, and functions held in Member Countries to promote greater ASEAN awareness and solidarity, in accordance with the provisions specified under these guidelines.
5. Mourning
Upon the death of a Head of State or Head of Government of a Member State, the ASEAN Flag shall be flown at half-mast at the ASEAN Secretariat building.
6. Flag Arrangement for ASEAN Meetings
The ASEAN Flag shall be displayed together with flags of Member Countries in the English alphabetical order starting from Brunei Darussalam on the extreme right. The ASEAN Table flag shall be displayed at the right side of the Secretary-General/ASEAN Secretariat plaque. The ASEAN Flag, in such cases, should be displayed in line with the grouping, to the extreme left of the countries’ flag, as illustrated in the following diagram:

USE OF THE NAME “ASEAN”
The Presidium Minister for Political Affairs/Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand do hereby declare the establishment of an association for regional cooperation among the countries of Southeast Asia to be known as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). – ASEAN Declaration, Bangkok, 8 August 1967
I. NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS
The ASEAN Standing Committee, at its meeting in Manila on 16-18 June 1986, adopted the Guidelines for ASEAN Relations with Non-Governmental Organizations, which included a provision on the use of the name “ASEAN.”
The relevant provision states that, an affiliated NGO “may use the name ‘ASEAN’ and display the official ASEAN emblem in correspondence, communications, and at its official meetings so long as the displaying of such emblem is non-commercial in nature.” (NGO Guidelines, section 10.1).
II. PRIVATE SECTOR
The ASEAN Standing Committee, at its meeting in Jakarta on 10 January 1979, adopted the Guidelines on the Use of the name “ASEAN” by the Private Sector. Below are the main points:
Member countries shall exercise some measure of control on the use of the name “ASEAN” by the private sector for business purposes. This administrative control shall be exercised where official registration is required by law for setting up a company, such as a trading company, whether as a corporation or sole proprietorship. Any request for the use of the name “ASEAN” should satisfy the following conditions:
(i) The entity should be regional in character involving all members of ASEAN;
(ii) The name “ASEAN” should not be brought into disrepute by its usage;
(iii) The entity should be indigenous to ASEAN;
(iv) The usage of ASEAN should not have any negative effect on the aims and objectives of ASEAN;
(v) The entity should have the sponsorship of any of the ASEAN National Secretariats.
